The Warsaw Police Department is a service oriented organization. It is our goal to provide the best protection and service for the safety and welfare of the citizens of our community. The department is comprised of several divisions, each with specific goals and responsibilities. The Uniform Patrol Division is the largest with 25 assigned officers. This division is responsible for the daily patrol of the city and responding to initial calls for service. Other divisions of the Police Department are: Detectives, Operations, and Administration. The Detective Division has four sworn officers who are responsible for the investigation of criminal acts. The Operations Division is comprised of three sections: Records, Data Management, and Vehicle Maintenance. The Administrative Division includes the Chief of Police and Captain, who are responsible for the overall operation of the Police Department. The Warsaw Police Department is dedicated to community service and has specialty programs to enhance our service. It is through our involvement with these programs that we strive to better interact with the members of our community. One of the most popular programs is Project D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), taught in the Warsaw Community School Corporation. We have two officers assigned full time to the program in the elementary schools. A third officer is assigned as a School Resource Officer at Warsaw Community High School. He is on campus daily and available to handle all calls for service at the school. Another favorite program is the Warsaw Citizens’ Police Academy. The WCPA is an annual 10-session academy conducted by various department instructors. The Academy’s purpose is to educate and inform citizens of the functions of the Police Department. The Warsaw Police Department works closely with other law enforcement and emergency service organizations in Kosciusko County. We have a joint drug task force (SPOT) and a special weapons and tactics (SWAT) team with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department. In addition, the Warsaw Police Department has an Aquatics Team that is specially trained for water rescue and recovery. The officers receive special training and are fully equipped to respond 24 hours a day. The Uniform Patrol Division is complemented by 2 canine (K9) officers. Our K9 team trains monthly and is capable of drug search and tracking. The Field Training and Evaluation Program was established to provide better police service to the community. When a new officer is hired, the recruit is immediately assigned to the Field Training and Evaluation Program (commonly called FTO). The recruit officer is partnered with experienced officers for twelve weeks, undergoing intensive training before being assigned solo patrol duties. All Warsaw police officers are required to attend the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy within their first year of employment. In August of 2000, the Warsaw Police Department’s communications division joined with the Kosciusko County Sheriff Department’s communications division to create the Kosciusko Communication Center. The dispatchers work together in one dispatch center and are responsible for answering all telephone calls, including 911, and dispatching officers to the calls for service. They also dispatch the area EMS and Fire Department calls. The Warsaw Victim Service Center began in 1999 after we recognized an increased reporting of domestic violence calls. The center provides support and information to the victims of violent crimes. Assistance is available 24 hours. The Victim Service Center may be contacted through Central Dispatch after normal business hours. The Warsaw Police Department strives to provide the best service possible. Our dedicated officers and support personnel make it their mission to protect and serve.
